Biography
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, my journey into the art world began with a sense of uncertainty about my future. Unlike many of my peers, I didn't have a clear vision of what I wanted to be when I grew up. It wasn't until I enrolled in my first art class during high school that my future began to take focus.
Under the guidance of my high school art teacher, I discovered a talent for artistic expression that I never knew I had. She not only taught me the fundamentals of art but also became a trusted mentor and lifelong friend. It was through her encouragement and guidance that I found my calling in art education.
During the transition between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I was fortunate enough to secure a teaching position at a school with a program for artistically talented students. Serving as a Magnet Fine Arts instructor, I have found fulfillment in guiding and inspiring the next generation of artists, and seventeen years later I am proud to continue working at the same wonderful institution.
While teaching became my primary focus for a time, my own artistic aspirations never faded. Several years ago, a colleague helped me discover a passion for working En Plein Air. This reawakening of my artistic spirit led to the establishment of Liz Hunter Studio, Inc. and participation in a growing number of art festivals and exhibitions.
Today, I find joy in both teaching and creating art, each complementing and enriching the other. As I continue to nurture young talents and explore my own artistic endeavors, I am grateful for the winding path that has brought me to where I am today and eagerly look forward to where this practice will take me next.
Work
Lizzie is inspired by the brilliance of natural and built environments. She works en plein air to create paintings that embody a quiet, meditative quality, inviting viewers to pause and contemplate the tranquility of the moments depicted. The portable nature of this practice makes the production of each piece an adventure of sorts.
Lizzie aims to create paintings that inspire a sense of connection and appreciation for the spaces we inhabit. Through the interplay of light, color, and texture, each painting becomes a window into a moment of stillness, inviting reflection and connection with the work.
