Biography

Bornand raised in the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, my journey into the art worldbegan with a sense of uncertainty about my future. Unlike many of my peers, Ididn't have a clear vision of what I wanted to be when I grew up. It wasn'tuntil I enrolled in my first art class during high school that my future beganto take focus.

Underthe guidance of my high school art teacher, I discovered a talent for artisticexpression that I never knew I had. She not only taught me the fundamentals ofart but also became a trusted mentor and lifelong friend. It was through herencouragement and guidance that I found my calling in art education.

Duringthe transition between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I was fortunateenough to secure a teaching position at a school with a program for artistically talented students. Servingas a Magnet Fine Arts instructor, I found fulfillment in guiding and inspiringthe next generation of artists, and seventeen years later I am proud to continueworking at this wonderful institution.

Whileteaching became my primary focus for a time, my own artisticaspirations never faded. Several years ago, a colleague helped me discover apassion for working En Plein Air. This reawakening of my artistic spirit led to the establishment of Liz Hunter Studio, Inc. and participation in a growing number of artfestivals and exhibitions.

Today,I find joy in both teaching and creating art, each complementing and enrichingthe other. As I continue to nurture young talents and explore my own artisticendeavors, I am grateful for the winding path that has brought me to where I amtoday and eagerly look forward to where this practice will take me next.

Work

Lizzie has explored a variety of subjects and concepts over the years, investigating each one in series. These works all share the common thread of capturing the essence of a moment or location, while recording the joy of pushing materials around on a surface. The pieces oftentimes reveal the history of how they were created, featuring thickly-applied layers of buttery paint in some areas and revealing thin under-paintings in others.

Most recently, plein air landscape painting has been Lizzie's focus; she is genuinely energized and excited by the immediacyof working En Plein Air. The portable nature of this practice makes theproduction of each piece feel like an adventure of sorts. The pieces embody a quiet, meditative quality, invitingviewers to pause and contemplate the tranquility of the moments depicted.Through the interplay of light, color, and texture, each painting becomes awindow into a moment of stillness, inviting reflection and connection with thework.

Ultimately, her goal as a plein air landscape painter is to create works that invite viewersto experience their world in a new and meaningful way. Whether through a familiarscenes or a distant vistas, her paintings aim to inspire a sense of connection andappreciation for the spaces we inhabit.
